Toledo
Toledo is Ohio’s fourth largest city and sits on Lake Erie. Due to climate change, toxic algae blooms make the lake unsafe to access and local drinking water dangerous to consume. Toledo’s lead water lines are leaching into drinking water, with CDC estimates of nearly 4,000 kids suffering from lifelong poisoning. Massive manufacturing loss leaves thousands unemployed.
But we believe ecological and economic devastation are not inevitable. OOC organizes faith leaders and community members to demand more from our government: clean drinking water, quality and affordable housing, and access to SNAP benefits and Medicaid for all.
